Tamarind Pachi Gojju

Soaking time : 10 minutes
Cooking time : 1 minute

Ingredients

2 lemon sized tamarind
Enough water to soak the tamarind
1 tbsp oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds / jeera
1 tsp asefotida
5-6 dry chillies
A few curry leaves
Salt to taste

Method

  1. Soak the tamarind in water and set aside for 10 minutes.
  2. Extract the tamarind water and discard the pulp.
  3. In a frying pan, heat oil.
  4. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, dry chillies and asefotida.
  5. Once the mustard seeds and cumin seeds crackle, add curry leaves and turn off the gas.
  6. Add the tempering to the extracted tamarind water and mix well.
Tamarind pachi gojju is ready to be served.
Notes
  1. It is one the best accompaniments for Ven Pongal.
  2. You may add finely chopped onion to this gojju.
